Ten fixed lines
The game always plays 10 fixed paylines on 5 reels and 3 rows. Wins pay left to right on adjacent reels from the leftmost reel, except the scatter and the special expansion symbol. Only the highest win is paid on each line, and wins on several lines are added. Payouts are shown for a bet of 1 on a dynamic paytable.
The explorer wild
The explorer in the hat is the wild. It substitutes for every symbol except the scatter. When it appears, it expands to cover its whole reel before line wins are calculated. The help page adds that it does not appear on the same reel as a scatter or the special expansion symbol. Five explorers pay 100.00 at a bet of 1.
The golden book scatter
The scatter is a golden book. It only appears on the 1st, 3rd and 5th reels and pays in any position: three scatters pay 2x the bet and trigger 10 free games.
Special expansion symbol in free games
Before the free games begin, one symbol is chosen at random as the special expansion symbol. Any symbol can be chosen except the wild and the scatter. During free games it can win without appearing on consecutive reels, and when it wins it expands to fill its reels.
In each free game the wild expands first and line wins are counted. Then, in the help page's words, 'If 3 or more reels with special expansion symbol and WILD symbol', the special symbol expands and its win is added. Scatter wins are added before this, and the expanding symbol can cover a scatter. Three scatters add 10 more free games, up to 50 in total, played at the triggering bet.
One line in the rules says special expansion symbols 'do not need to start from the left reel, appear continuously from left to right', which reads as contradictory; the help page does not clear it up.
Plain and gold tiles
The paytable pictures each symbol twice, plain and on a gold tile, and the help page says normal and special expansion symbols count the same for payouts. The compass and map lead at 100.00 for five, then the backpack, the explorer hat and the binoculars, which also pay for two. A and K, then Q, J and 10 close the table.
Extra bet and sensible play
The rules state that an additional 50% of the current bet is required to pay for the extra bets, but do not say what the extra bets add or how to switch them. Check your total bet on screen before spinning. Keep stakes small, set a budget for the session and stop when it is used.
