Ways and Wild
The board is 5 reels by 3 rows with 243 fixed ways. Everything except the Scatter pays from the leftmost reel to the right on adjacent reels, only the highest win on each way is paid and wins on different ways are added. The Wild is a red banner; it replaces every other symbol except the Mystery symbol and the Scatter.
The gateway Mystery symbol
The Mystery symbol is a stone arch with a lowered gate. It appears in the main game and in free spins, and all of them reveal the same symbol, never the Wild or the Scatter. In any spin an Upgrade can be triggered at random, which turns some 10, J, Q, K or A symbols on screen into Mystery symbols for that spin only. A symbol that has been upgraded is left out of the reveal.
Gem Scatters
The Scatter is a round shield with crossed swords. It lands on reels 1 to 5 in four versions: no gem, 1 gem, 2 gems or 3 gems, and all count as a Scatter. Three or more at once in the main game start the free spins, and the gems on them are carried into the feature.
Free spins: the upgrade ladder
Free spins start with 10. For every 3 gems collected, the next card symbol becomes a Mystery symbol for the rest of the feature and 3 spins are added. The help page gives the order as an example:
- All 10s upgraded: 13 free games in total
- All Js upgraded: 16 free games
- All Qs upgraded: 19 free games
- All Ks upgraded: 22 free games
- All As upgraded: 25 free games, the most listed
Rules worth knowing in free spins
Each free spin collects all gems on the Scatters. Upgrades from gems do not reset until the feature ends. Once the A has been upgraded, the help page says the Scatter will not appear for the remaining spins. Free games cannot be started again inside free games, and they use the same bet settings as the spin that triggered them.
A calm approach
Payouts are shown for a bet of 1 and change with your bet level. Set a budget before you play, keep bets small while you watch how the gates reveal, and stop when the budget is spent.
